Climate fuels: the key to climate-neutral mobility

Over 1.4 billion vehicles with combustion engines are on the road worldwide today – and this figure will remain with us for decades to come. In view of this reality, we must not focus solely on new technologies, but must also think intelligently and sustainably about the existing fleet. E-fuels, synfuels and their blends are indispensable here. They form a bridge to carbon neutrality and enable an energy transition that is based on openness to technology, existing infrastructure and global cooperation.

Sustainability needs realism – and technology

E-fuels are synthesized from green hydrogen, obtained from renewable electricity, and CO₂ from the atmosphere, industrial processes or biogenic sources. This technology is not a dream of the future – it is ready for the market. It makes it possible to produce synthetic fuels that are fully compatible with existing engines and supply systems.

Another example is HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil): an advanced biofuel that reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90 % – immediately and without technical adaptation. At DKS Fuels Solution, we actively work with international refineries and producers to make exactly this type of solution available globally. Our goal: scalable, reliable supply chains for climate-neutral fuels.

Why climate fuels count today

Immediate effect: Every liter of e-fuel or HVO that is refueled directly reduces CO₂ emissions – without having to wait for new vehicle fleets.
Use existing infrastructure: Whether filling station, pipeline or engine – everything remains usable.
Climate neutrality in the balance sheet: If e-fuels are produced with renewable energy, the CO₂ produced during combustion has already been removed from the atmosphere beforehand.
Global scalability: Green hydrogen can be produced cheaply in sunny and windy regions – an opportunity for international partnerships and climate-friendly trade.

The combustion engine will continue to dominate for a long time to come, particularly in emerging markets, aviation and heavy goods transport. What we need now is decisive action: a clear regulatory framework, fair market conditions for e-fuels and targeted support for power-to-X systems. This is the only way to achieve the industrial scaling that is necessary to make an impact.

Climate fuels are not a counter-model to electromobility – they are its sensible and necessary partner. They secure industrial jobs, maintain freedom of mobility and make a tangible contribution to achieving our climate targets.
